A frightening scene unfolded in Kansas City on Wednesday as gunfire rained down on Chiefs fans celebrating the Super Bowl victory.

One person is confirmed dead and at least 21 others are injured, according to Kansas City police, after gunfire opened in the Union Station area at the conclusion of the rally portion of the Chiefs’ parade celebrating their Super Bowl LVIII championship. Police are still piecing together what happened, but reportedly have three individuals in custody.

The incident caused the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade to end in chaos.

“People were traumatized, man” Adrian Robinson, who was selling t-shirts at the parade, said to New York Times Reporter Kevin Draper. “They were crying. Hyperventilating.”

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas indicated that none of the Chiefs or league personnel present were harmed during the incident and all were accounted for following the shooting. Chiefs players poured out sympathy for the victims and their families on social media, with Wide Receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling hoping to provide direct support to the families.

Of the 21 injured, eight are reportedly dealing with life-threatening injuries. At least eleven children were injured during the incident, nine with gunshot wounds, but all are expected to recover.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Kansas City Police, who are investigating the incident.
