Four more years for number four!

The Eagles extended Kicker Jake Elliott for another four seasons, according to an official release by the team. This move locks Jake Elliott up until 2028.

Elliott was brought to the team in 2017 from the Bengals’ practice squad after former kicker Caleb Sturgis landed on injured reserve due to a hip injury. Elliott immediately made an impact during the week 3 matchup against the New York Giants, when he set the record for longest field goal by a rookie kicker in league history at 61 yards, which would win the game for the Eagles. While he was solid from a distance, he was far from a lock closer up during that first year. Elliott went 39 for 42 in extra points during that first year, giving him a completion percentage of .929, tied for 28th in the league with former Cowboys Kicker Dan Bailey. Elliott was also 26 for 31 in field goals, with most of his misses being near the goalposts that year.

Elliott has since improved, and he is usually a lock for the Eagles when they send him out. During the 2023 season, Elliott was 30 for 32 in field goals and 45 for 46 in extra points. He also matched his feat of 61 yards during the Eagles’ matchup with the Buffalo Bills during the 2023 season, in a kick that would send the game to overtime.

Elliott was easily the MVP of the 2023 season. With a team collapsing around him, Elliott was at least a surefire bet to get points on the board, even if they weren’t touchdowns.

“Nobody I’d rather have in the NFL more than Jake Elliott,” said Eagles Head Coach Nick Sirianni following the Buffalo Bills matchup last season. “Shoot, to me he’s the best kicker in the NFL. He’s so clutch.”

While others might get the nerves during that moment, Elliott said that he almost relishes those opportunities.

“It’s something I’ve been doing my whole life,” Elliott remarked. “I love it when those situations come down to me. I always have. In tennis growing up, in baseball being the last batter, whatever it may be. It’s kind of just something I’ve always done and always felt real comfortable in. For whatever reason, I just really love those situations.”
