Eagles Sign Devin White
The Eagles added needed depth to their linebacker corps.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Eagles agreed to terms with former Tampa Bay Buccaneers LB Devin White on a one-year deal. The deal is reportedly worth up to $7.5 million.
White, the number 5 overall pick by the Buccaneers in the 2019 NFL Draft, had a combined 83 tackles in the regular season in 2023, 49 of them solo. He also got 2.5 sacks and five tackles for a loss. He also nabbed two interceptions during the regular season, but his PFF grade was a low 46.0.
White lined up opposite the Eagles twice during 2023. In the Eagles’ matchup against the Buccaneers in Week 3, he had seven tackles (five solo) and one of his two interceptions. He was much quieter in the Eagles’ wild card matchup against the Bucs, with just two combined tackles, all of them assists.
Signing just one player to a prove it deal isn’t enough to shore up the linebacker slot. Still, it’s not hard to imagine the impact someone like White could have on a defensive backfield that felt like it was playing with three guys the team picked up from the local Wawa.
The Eagles still have over $30 million in cap space. With rookies incoming through the NFL Draft at the end of April, and most offensive holes plugged, the Eagles can still bolster the defensive backfield.
