The NFL announced today at the spring league meeting that Pittsburgh will host the 2026 NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh’s bid was approved by the league ownership after a thorough review by the Fan Engagement & Major Events Advisory Committee. The NFL Draft coming to Pittsburgh marks the second time in the last 10 years that a Pennsylvania city would host the event. Philadelphia hosted the 2017 NFL Draft.

“The NFL Draft is one of the biggest, most-anticipated sporting events of the year, and we’re thrilled to partner with the Pittsburgh Steelers and VisitPITTSBURGH for our 2026 event,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a written statement. “We have a unique opportunity to spotlight this wonderful community on a global stage, benefiting Pittsburgh’s economy and entertaining football fans from all markets. We know this pride of Pennsylvania will shine bright in 2026.”

The NFL Draft has become a major event since 2014, when the league began moving the draft following a stretch in New York City that lasted just shy of 50 years. Cities pull out all the stops to highlight the things their city has to offer. The league and the city will partner to put on free events for fans.

“We are excited that the City of Pittsburgh has been selected to host the 2026 NFL Draft,” said Art Rooney II, Pittsburgh Steelers President in a written statement. “This will be an amazing event that will highlight everything the region has to offer on a national and international level. I truly appreciate the work that has been done by VisitPITTSBURGH, the NFL, local and state officials, and internally within our organization to accomplish our goal of being selected to host the NFL Draft. We look forward to football fans from all across the country coming to enjoy our city’s culture while also showcasing our rich football history and tradition in the region.”

There was wide speculation that Philadelphia would host the 2026 NFL Draft as a part of the sesquicentennial anniversary of the United States. Philadelphia will host the 2026 MLB All Star Game at Citizens Bank Park and a July 4 FIFA World Cup game at Lincoln Financial Field.

This will be Pittsburgh’s second time hosting the NFL Draft, the first time being in 1948, just 12 years after former Eagles owner Bert Bell’s proposal kicked off at the Ritz-Carlton in Philadelphia.
