The US Women’s Curling Team, captained by Tabitha Peterson, rose to 3-1 in round robin play after defeating Japan.
The game was close for the two teams, going back and forth throughout most of the early ends. In the eighth end, though, Team USA was able to pull ahead thanks to a three-point performance and several Japanese mistakes to take a 7-3 lead. Japan was able to narrow the lead to 7-4 in the ninth end, but with Team USA having the hammer in the tenth end, Japan conceded the match.
Team USA had an 89% shot success rate in the game, with Peterson leading the way with a 100% success rate. Cory Thiesse, who won silver in the mixed doubles competition, did most of the team’s takeout shots to clear the way for victory.
The women’s team goes on to play China to keep their winning ways alive. In the standings, Team USA is tied for second with their 3-1 record, on a two-game win streak after stunning Canada earlier in these games. Sweden is unbeaten in round robin play but has played one fewer match than the Americans.
