Cleveland-Ojomo-Injury-Update

During Thursday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, WR Tyrie Cleveland and DT Moro Ojomo suffered injuries that caused them to leave the game on stretchers. Both players were able to move their extremities.

The Eagles provided an update on their condition on Friday afternoon. Both players sustained concussions, while Cleveland also sustained a neck sprain. A full recovery is expected for both players.

“The Philadelphia Eagles medical team exercised an abundance of caution as it took the necessary steps in the care of the players to ensure the best possible outcome for their health and wellbeing,” the Eagles said in a statement.

The Eagles noted that both players were fully responsive on the field, but their conditions required immediate on-field treatment.

“We commend our medical team for quickly diagnosing each player’s condition and acting with precision as they administered care,” the statement continued.

The NFL’s concussion protocol was established in 2011 and is reviewed annually by independent physicians and scientists that comprise the NFL’s Head, Neck and Spine Committee. Given the concussion diagnosis, the concussion protocol will dictate the ability of Ojomo to return. Cleveland will also be governed by it, but could also be impacted based on recovery from the neck sprain.

The Eagles face one more opponent in the preseason, the Indianapolis Colts, on Thursday August 24.
