The Eagles, like every NFL team, had to make the final roster moves to get the team down to 53 players. The initial 53 man roster was due at 4 PM ET on Tuesday, August 29.
The most depth on the roster exists at the offensive and defensive lines, where there are nine and ten players, respectively. Defensive Backs, a category that includes both corners and safeties, also has significant depth with eleven players split between the two positions.
The Eagles also made two non-cut moves. The Eagles signed Isaiah Rodgers to the team, but immediately placed him on the suspended list. Rodgers, originally with the Indianapolis Colts, was suspended indefinitely this past June for violations of the NFL’s Gambling Policy. Reports were that he placed a significant number of bets on Colts games. He can apply for reinstatement after the 2023-24 NFL Season.
Speaking to the media, Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman indicated that they were hopeful that he would contribute next year.
“He’s a talented guy, and obviously he made a mistake,” Roseman said. “We believe in second chances….he’s a talented guy.”
Additionally, the Eagles traded a sixth round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Broncos for TE Albert Okwuegbunam.
More moves are expected by the Eagles. Notably, the Eagles released Punter Arryn Siposs, so the Eagles will be on the market for a punter.
Players who do not have four vested seasons will be subject to the waiver wire, and the Eagles could claim a player before noon on Wednesday. After noon on Wednesday, teams may begin building the practice squad.
Birds Nest Media sat down with Dave Spadaro to talk about the roster and the process behind it. This episode of the Birds Nest Podcast will be available below shortly.
