Ben VanSumeren Placed on Injured Reserve
The Eagles placed FB Ben VanSumeren on injured reserve on Friday afternoon.
VanSumeren, who sustained a leg injury on the opening kickoff of the Eagles’ regular season opener, reportedly tore his patella tendon on the play. The injury renders his season over.
VanSumeren has made a name for himself in the last few years, serving as a fullback for the Eagles as well as a special teams ace. He also contributes to the defense when needed, though he didn’t record a defensive stat last season according to the NFL statistics system.
The silver lining is that the injury opened up a roster spot for the Eagles to sign DE Za’Darius Smith to the active roster.
