The Eagles are reportedly bringing on Vic Fangio as the new defensive coordinator.

The news, first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, follows on the heels of Wednesday’s year-end press conference, where the Eagles confirmed that they had parted ways with former Defensive Coordinator Sean Desai and former Senior Defensive Assistant Matt Patricia. Desai was a disciple of Fangio, but the defense was never on sure footing throughout the season and began to unravel after the bye week.

Fangio, meanwhile, mutually parted ways with the Miami Dolphins. Under Fangio, the Dolphins defense was 10th in the league in yards per game, second in the league in sacks per pass attempt, and 7th in the league in rushing yards per game.

Fangio was brought on by the Eagles during the playoffs as a consultant but timing got in the way of him being the defensive coordinator hire to replace Jonathan Gannon. Gannon left for the Arizona Cardinals shortly after the Eagles’ loss in Super Bowl LVII. The Cardinals would later face a tampering charge surrounding this hiring.
