The Eagles traded for Titans Safety Kevin Byard this afternoon, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Eagles reportedly got Byard in exchange for S Terrell Edmunds and a pair of picks, one in the fifth round and one in the sixth round, in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Reports have been circulating since the Eagles’ loss to the Jets that Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman was looking for defensive backfield help. The Eagles found their guy in Byard.

Byard led the league in interceptions in 2017 with eight, and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2017 and 2021. So far this season, he has a combined 47 tackles, including 30 solo tackles, and a fumble recovery.

Though Byard led the Titans in interceptions in the 2022 and 2021 seasons at four and five, respectively, Titans General Manager Ran Carthon confirmed that the team asked him to take a pay cut prior to this season.

Eagles CB Darius Slay was on board with the trade as soon as it was announced, tweeting out in part, “Just got better, let’s work!”

Byard joins former teammate AJ Brown, whom the Eagles got during the 2022 NFL Draft from the Titans in exchange for a first and third round pick in that year’s draft. Brown was also elated, tweeting on X in a now-deleted tweet “We really just got the Mayor!” alluding to Byard’s nickname, the “Mayor of Murfreesboro.”

Byard, for his part, said his farewells to Tennessee this afternoon, indicating that “Middle Tennessee truly became our [the Byard family’s] home, and always will be.”

With a banged-up Eagles secondary, Roseman has until October 31 at 4 PM ET to make any additional trades with other teams.
