Eagles Kicker Jake Elliott was named the first NFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in Week 1 against the New England Patriots.
Elliott, who has now earned the honor four times in his career since starting with the Eagles in 2017, was perfect on field goals in Sunday’s season opener with the Patriots. He went four for four including two field goals more than 50 yards in a rainy Gilette Stadium. Elliott only missed one extra point, during the first quarter which would’ve put the Eagles up by 17.
It was due to Elliott’s strong performance on the field that the Eagles were able to remain competitive. Head Coach Nick Sirianni acknowledged Elliott’s performance following the game.
“When it’s not [going well on offense], and we can kick field goals from where we’re at, Jake [Elliott], great [expletive] job!” Sirianni said to the team in a video published by the Eagles after the game. “That was huge! We’ve got so much confidence in you!”
Elliott is the all-time franchise leader in field goals from more than 50 yards at 21, including the postseason. His career longest remains the 61 yard field goal he kicked during Week 3 of his rookie 2017 season, which gave the Eagles the victory over the New York Giants.
