Eagles Announce Uniforms for Brazil
The Eagles announced today that they will wear white jerseys, black helmets, and black pants for the season opener in Brazil.
The announcement comes a week before the Eagles face off against the Packers on September 6 at 8 PM ET. The game will broadcast nationally on Peacock, with over the air broadcasts on the local NBC station in each team (NBC10 WCAU-TV for Philadelphia).
In the lead up to the game, there was speculation regarding uniform colors. The Eagles and Packers both have green as the dominant color in their color scheme, which is similar to the rival of the F.C. Corinthians, the local soccer team. During soccer matches, fans are not allowed to wear green inside the Arena Corinthians.
As noted in the Brazil episode of Tom Grossi‘s International Stadium Tour series, the rule doesn’t apply to American Football.
Still, it’s hard not to speculate the Eagles are trying to claim every advantage possible. The Eagles are officially the home team for the game, so they received first choice of uniform colors. The selection forced the Packers to wear their standard green uniforms with gold helmets.
Nike limits the number of uniforms a team may have, so the Eagles did not come up with a custom uniform with black numbering.
The Eagles first used a black helmet in the 2022 season with all-black uniforms, but had to put it aside when debuting the Kelly Green uniforms last season. With a recent NFL rule change allowing teams to wear a third helmet, the Eagles brought it back. The helmet will otherwise be used with black jerseys.
