Final Roster Updates: Britain Covey Questionable, Arryn Siposs Activated

The Eagles listed Punt Return Specialist Britain Covey as questionable for Super Bowl LVII on Friday, and made three roster moves today to finalize the roster for Super Bowl LVII.
Punter Arryn Siposs, who earlier this year went on injured reserve after sustaining an ankle injury in the Eagles’ rout of the New York Giants in the Meadowlands in December, was officially activated for the game. Additionally, Wide Receiver Greg Ward and Safety Anthony Harris were temporarily elevated to the active roster from the practice squad.
The nature of Covey’s hamstring issue is undetermined beyond rendering him questionable. Covey first appeared on injury reports on Thursday. It was not substantially addressed in Thursday’s media availability, and the Eagles did not have availability on Friday or Saturday. He is the only player listed as questionable, so all of the starting 11 on offense and defense are expected to play.
Though Covey predominantly fair catches his punts, if he is not ready to go on Sunday, Ward could be an option to replace him there, justifying his temporary elevation from the practice squad. The Eagles have used Ward and DeVonta Smith in this role throughout the year.
When the Eagles were in Super Bowl LII, injuries loomed large over the team. Twelve players were listed on Injured Reserve heading into the game versus New England, and while by the end of it everyone not on the list was ready to go, the Eagles were impacted on the field by injuries. To have a team that is this healthy heading into the biggest game of the year is a testament to how far the team’s training and medical staffs have come in guiding players to being healthy.
Siposs will assume the punting role over his replacement, Brett Kern. Kern’s role was to tend the shop, and he marginally beat the role. Through the postseason, he’s averaged 42.2 yards per punt on 17 attempts, and made some horrific punts in the NFC Championship game including one that was disputed whether the ball hit the wire of the SkyCam. The Eagles will be fortunate to have Siposs back for the game.
Harris’ elevation is likely a fail-safe in the event the Eagles need additional depth at the safety position.
As the Eagles head into the last 24 hours before the Super Bowl, they can rest easy knowing that their team is relatively rested and ready to go.
