Jordan Stolz was hailed as the fastest skater for his age. Today, he proved that on the Olympic stage, claiming the gold medal for Team USA in the men’s 1000m speed skating event.

Stolz finished with an Olympic record 1:06.28 finish time, which was nine tenths of a second faster than the previous Olympic record. Stolz already holds the world record in the event with a 2024 performance finishing in 1:05.37.

This is Stolz’s first Olympic medal, finishing ahead of skating partner Jenning de Boo of the Netherlands who claimed the silver medal with a 1:06.78 finish time, just a half a second behind Stolz. Bronze went to Zhongyan Ning who finished with a 1:07.34 time.

The race featured two disqualifications due to contact with other racers. Joep Wennemars of the Netherlands, who had a collision with China’s Zwien Lian, was awarded the opportunity to re-skate at the end of the event. Wennemars had a near-impossible task of finishing faster than his initial time, which was good enough to finish in 5th place before the re-skate and did not improve on the re-skate, finishing in a 1:07.58 time.

The other disqualification went to Austria’s Gabriel Odor for a similar violation. His skating partner, Poland’s Piotr Michalski, declined the re-skate.
