Eagles Sign Za’Darius Smith
The Eagles signed Za’Darius Smith to the active roster, the team confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Smith is an 11 year vet who spent time with a number of teams over his career. Smith was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2015 and spent time with the Packers, Vikings, Browns, and Lions. He has been a free agent since the Lions waived him in March.
Smith has 333 combined tackles over his career, 220 of them solo. He adds extra manpower to a defensive line that did not record a single sack against the Cowboys in the season opener.
This move is indicative of Eagles GM Howie Roseman’s desire to keep improving the team.
“Throughout the year we’re trying to improve the team,” said Howie Roseman on roster cut down day. “I think that even after the trade deadline, you’re sitting there and you’re going, ‘Hey, is there anything else we can do? Is there things that we can continue to do?’ I don’t sit here no matter what the year is, no matter what the time of the year is and feel content with what we’re doing. We’ll continue to look for opportunities.”
