US Mixed Doubles Curling Team Ekes Out Narrow Victory Over Estonia, Stays Alive
Olympic Winter Games 2026, Curling Mixed Doubles, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy
The US Curling Team of Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin held on at the end of their first matchup of the day to pull out a 5-3 victory over Estonia in the round robin stage.
The victory means that Team USA only needs to win one of its next two games against Sweden or host Italy to make it to the playoff round. Team USA could have qualified in this early round if Sweden had lost to Great Britain, but received no help from the Brits, who have already qualified for the playoffs. It was Great Britain’s first loss of the round robin.
The US team, nicknamed “Cory and Korey,” misplayed its powerplay, while Estonia kept the competition close. However, in the final two ends, Cory and Korey were able to capitalize on some Estonian misses to pull away with the victory.
The win for Team USA breaks a two-game losing streak after starting on a 4-0 run.
