Flag football has a special brand at the Olympics.
During the Super Bowl LX broadcast on Sunday, February 8, 2026, the LA28 Organizing Committee along with the NFL and the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) debuted a custom emblem for the 2028 Summer Olympics that highlights flag football’s debut on the Olympic stage.
“This emblem is another step in building excitement and momentum toward LA28, giving fans a new way to connect with the sport and the Games,” said Peter O’Reilly, NFL Executive Vice President of Club Business, International, and League Events, in a statement. “As interest in flag football continues to grow, this emblem helps bring that energy to life and engage fans around what’s ahead.”
Each iteration of the Olympic Games has a custom emblem that is used in a lockup with the Olympic Rings to create a particular identity for that iteration of the games. The LA28 Organizing Committee has used the 2028 Summer Olympics as an opportunity to create multiple emblems celebrating various facets of the games.
For the 2028 Summer Olympics, flag football was approved as an Olympic sport in October 2023. NFL owners approved a resolution in May to allow NFL players to try out for Olympic teams. Fans can register for chances to purchase tickets to flag football events and other Olympic events now.
The NFL has invested considerable resources into the growth of flag football in the United States. Regional NFL Flag tournaments happen throughout the country before teams convene in Canton OH for the championship round.
While the NFL was involved in the introduction of flag football to the Olympic program in 2028, governance of the sport on an international level is conducted by IFAF, which will set the rules for the Olympic competition.
“This awesome creative collaboration reflects the excitement felt right across the worldwide American Football community as we prepare for our sport’s historic first Olympic Games appearance in LA28,” said IFAF President Pierre Trochet. “It’s fantastic to have our primary professional league partner so strongly committed alongside us, lending its platforms and innovation to support the success of the Games.”
