Eagles Trade Kenny Pickett to Browns for Dorian Thompson-Robinson
The Philadelphia Eagles traded Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns on Monday night for Dorian Thompson-Robinson, according to NFL Network.
The move, which also sends a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Eagles, marks the fourth backup quarterback in five seasons under Nick Sirianni. The Eagles spent 2021 and 2022 with Gardner Minshew, but would cycle through Marcus Mariota and Kenny Pickett over the next two seasons before nabbing Thompson-Robinson.
Pickett’s tenure as an Eagle was lackluster. He went 25 for 42 in the regular season for 291 yards, two touchdowns, four sacks, and one interception in his brief appearance in the regular season. Pickett finished the Eagles’ December matchup against the Washington Commanders, which they lost, and started in the following week’s blowout of the Dallas Cowboys before getting injured early, forcing 2023 draft pick Tanner McKee into the game. McKee was more impressive over his games to close the season out, going 30 for 45 with 323 yards, four touchdowns, and two sacks.
Originally from South Jersey, Pickett did get to play a few drives in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, though the Eagles went three and out on those drives.
Drafted by the Browns in 2023, Thompson-Robinson will likely be a developmental project for the Eagles, assuming he makes the roster. Thompson-Robinson was 61 for 118 in the regular season for the Browns, including 440 yards, six interceptions, and eight sacks, though his skill set aligns with Hurts more closely.
This move also suggests that Tanner McKee may become the second-string quarterback this season.
